If you are the one china dating show
A Melbourne man who woke from a coma speaking fluent Mandarin has found love on a Chinese dating show.
Ben Mc Mahon met Sydney lawyer Feng Guo on If You Are The One during one of two special episodes featuring Australian contestants.
The most viewed dating show in China is calling upon Australia to join the ranks of single, mandarin speaking contestants in collaboration with Australia’s Special Broadcasting Service second channel (SBS2).‘If You Are The One,’ hosted by Meng Fei has asked the Australian public to sign up for the show if they’re ‘terrified to die alone’, ‘worry no one will love them…ever’ or ‘sick of cooking for one’ in a two part special to be filmed in both Australia and Nanjing, China.
The show gained a cult following in Australia, after hitting screens in 2013, pitting one male suitor against 24 women, with the ability to show disinterest by merely turning off a light and expressing their distaste with uncensored honesty.
For the past few years, Chinese television has been inundated with dating shows, including Love Comes Knocking on the Door (Shandong Satellite Television) and Hunan Satellite Television’s Take Me Out.
The show is a cultural phenomenon in China, where each episode is watched by up to 50 million people.
Mr Mc Mahon was one of 10 men and 16 women who travelled to China for the Australian specials."I thought I'd put myself out there and find out if I was the one," Mr Mc Mahon told 774 ABC Melbourne's Rafael Epstein.
